Dear Friends,
I would like to personally invite you to a special gathering on Friday, October 12th (5:00-9:00 PM) at the Tap-Tap Restaurant (819 Fifth St., Miami Beach, FL 33139).
We are gathering to support the University of Fondwa (UNIF), Haiti’s first rural university.
The University of Fondwa, the product of a local peasant association, was founded in 2004 to commemorate Haiti’s 200 years of independence. UNIF’s audacious goal is to train three professionals for each of Haiti’s 565 rural communities, in Agronomy, Veterinary Medicine, and Management so that they can return to their home communities and work for a sustainable future.
To meet these young people is to see the face of Haiti’s future. Manouche Douze, a 4th year student in Agronomy, is the youngest of 9 children in a family from Mirebalais, in Haiti’s Central Plateau. Though she is just 23 years old and the first in her family to attend university, she is already a recognized leader in her community and the President of the local peasant association, thanks to the educational opportunities presented by UNIF.
In support of UNIF and solidarity with Haiti’s rural communities, please join us for an evening of education, entertainment and culture. You will taste the best in Haitian food, have the opportunity to view a breathtaking short documentary film, be exposed to fine Haitian art, and much, much more.
Our special guest for the evening is Fr. Joseph Philippe, an internationally renowned personality in the field of microfinance and founder of Haiti’s largest microcredit bank,
FONKOZE. As the founder of UNIF, he has brought his considerable energy to bear on creating new and exciting opportunities for the youth of Haiti.
To RSVP for this event, please return the form linked to above. We welcome you to join us between 5:00 and 9:00 PM on Friday, October 12th. Thank you for your participation!
Sincerely yours,
Michael Haerting
